That’s what our team of cuppers experienced on a recent trip to Siguatepeque, Honduras — a region in which we’ve developed deep connections since 2011.

Through our Friend2Farmer® initiatives, we’ve built lasting relationships with small-plot farmers here, working to improve both coffee quality and quality of life.

That work has deepened through our ongoing collaboration with Serve Hope International, a local nonprofit dedicated to meeting essential needs like housing, clean water and education.

Coffee, Connection and Community

This wasn’t just a sourcing trip. It was a hands-on, heart-first journey into the roots of the coffee you serve and enjoy every day.

Our cuppers spent time walking the farms, observing the picking and processing stages, and learning directly from the farmers who grow our coffee beans.

We talked. We cupped coffee. We shared meals. We listened. And we worked side-by-side to build a house for a coffee worker and his family.

“This trip was about more than coffee,” said Dave Eldridge, our green coffee buyer. “It was about connection and community. Sharing a meal, talking with the people who grow our beans, working alongside them to build something tangible — it all gives us a deeper understanding of their challenges, and helps us better represent their work.”

Over the years, our collaboration in Honduras has supported:

• Raised drying beds to improve processing

• Safe housing for families

• Clean water through filtration buckets

• Books and classroom supplies for local schools

• Service-learning trips for college students and coffee shop owners like you
