Celebrating the Brew that Brings Us Together
If coffee is part of your daily routine — or your entire way of life — mark your calendar. Each fall, coffee lovers around the world raise their mugs to celebrate the brew that fuels mornings, conversations and communities.
In the United States, National Coffee Day is celebrated on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025. Just two days later, the world comes together for International Coffee Day on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025.
These holidays may be close on the calendar, but each has its own origin story.
National Coffee Day
National Coffee Day has been recognized in the U.S. since at least the early 2000s.
Coffee shops, roasters and retailers began using the date to highlight deals and celebrate the nation’s love affair with coffee — now a daily habit for more than 70% of American adults, according to the National Coffee Association.
Many of our 7 Steps coffee shop customers celebrate with drink specials or limited-time brews that highlight their favorite roasts. It’s a fun way to connect with your community and share the story behind what’s in the cup.
In our own Crimson Cup retail shops, our National Coffee Day promotion on Monday, September 29, will highlight our delicious and refreshing Tap into Goodness signature drinks on tap. Guests can choose from Craft cold brews, Nitro, herbal iced tea, sparkling lemonades, refreshers, energy drinks and more. We will also be offering a 16-oz. House Armando’s Cold Brew on tap for $1.
International Coffee Day
International Coffee Day, established in 2015 by the International Coffee Organization (ICO), focuses on more than just celebration. It’s a global opportunity to recognize the farmers, producers and laborers behind every cup — and to promote fair and sustainable coffee practices around the world.
Each year, the ICO selects a theme to spotlight key issues in the coffee industry, from climate change to gender equity to economic resilience. It’s a time to pause and reflect on how coffee connects people across continents — and how every cup supports a global chain of hands and hearts.
The theme for International Coffee Day 2025 is “Embracing Collaboration More than Ever,” highlighting the need for unity and cooperation across the coffee industry to ensure sustainable practices and support farmers’ livelihoods. This theme calls for increased practical collaboration to address challenges and safeguard the coffee supply chain.
For coffee shop owners, International Coffee Day offers an opportunity to spotlight direct trade partnerships, share farmer stories or host tastings that explore origin and impact.
